The Tico

The Ticos (another word for Costa Ricans) are well known for their hospitality, and they want to keep this reputation. They are well mannered, good workers and are fast with a smile and a handshake.

The Ticos know very well that their land is special, and in general they willingly accept to guide lost tourists, even offering explanations with a kindness that surprises strangers, thus making their trip a pleasant one. It is said that the ticos are the best attribute this nation has to offer, and you won't doubt it for a minute once you have experienced it for yourself.

The Ticos are ethnically mixed. Even if most of it's 4 million citizens are direct descendents of Spanish immigrants, many families come from different parts of Europe, Asia, Africa and of course Central America. Many are light colored, especially in the Central Valley. In other regions, most people are mixed, some have both European and indigenous blood, and an important part of the population on the Caribbean coast is from African-Caribbean ascend; in the region of Talamanca natives from different nations like Bribri, Cabécar, Guaymí and Boruca coexist.
