Regions of Costa Rica

Central Pacific

Located between the City of Puntarenas and the mouth of the Barú River, better known as Dominical de Osa, the Central Pacific region spreads right to the small islands of the Nicoya Golf, where in fact the principal access is from Puntarenas. In the most interesting city aspects of main tourist visits, we should add Quepos and Jacó. The climatic characteristics of the region (rain and humidity) are for a fact the richest beaches and coastline as far as biodiversity is concerned. The vegetation is consisted of tropical forests in transition between dry tropical forest and tropical rainforest. These ecosystems host the many species of plants and animals protected in most wild forests. Coco's Island, located at 600 kilometres at Sea from the port of Puntarenas, is also part of this region; from a judicial point of view, the Island belongs to the province of Puntarenas.

The coastal sectors and protected wildlife areas constitute the principal centres of interest of the region. The coast also offers a multitude of beautiful beaches, and they are located less than three hours drive from San José. The protected wildlife areas, however, integrate wildlife refuge, National Parks and biological reserves. The region offers a quantity of other important tourist attractions both cultural and recreational; different events, especially sport ones are worth mentioning. The coastal road from the Caldera sector to the Quepos and Manuel Antonio zone is of unequalled beauty.
