Caribbean
The Caribbean region in Costa Rica is very particular, different from the rest of the country. Its coast, only 212 kilometres long, offers extremely original attractions. The landscape is divided in two very distinct sectors: the first, North of Moín unto the mouth of the San Juan river, offers an open coast, with long black sand beaches where the sea is rather violent; the second, South of Moín to the mouth of the Sixaola River, defines a much more landscaped coast showing it's many bays and coral reefs. It's there precisely that you will find the most important beaches of the region, the same that attract the most tourists.
The geomorphologic and climatic characteristics of this province give it an extraordinary environmental and ecological richness. Other than its coastal beauties, you also find alluvial plains, marshes, rivers, waterfalls, lagoons, exuberant evergreen forests, hills, mountains and valleys, all habitats for thousands of plants and animals belonging to different unique ecosystems. These incredible resources have been preserved thanks to an integral system of protected areas that is formed by national parks, wildlife refuge, biological and forest reserves, protected areas, etc. An integral part of this natural richness, the indigenous tribes, keeps their traditional way of life and lives in territories their own way.
