1. Do you need a passport to visit Costa Rica?
Yes, a valid passport is required to enter Costa Rica.

2. Is a visa necessary?
It all depends on your nationality. Most of the time, it will not be required. This is the case for the USA, Canada and most European countries.

3. Can I travel to Costa Rica on a one way ticket?
All visitors are required to show round trip tickets. This is a condition to enter the country.

4. Do you need an international driver's permit?
You can use your own permit for a period of up to three months.

5. What is the difference between cloud forest and tropical forest?
The principal difference is in the degree of humidity. In the cloud forest, precipitations are more important. The fauna and flora vary along with the type of forest.

6. Is the water drinkable in Costa Rica?
Water is drinkable on most of the territory. We do however suggest carrying bottled water.

7. What type of money is used in Costa Rica?
Our money is called the colón, after Christopher Columbus. US dollars, traveler's checks and all major credit cards are accepted almost everywhere,

8. Is it possible to use credit cards in Costa Rica?
Credit cards are accepted. You will also find many ATM (Automatic Teller Machines) in every major city.

9. Are there any required vaccination for Costa Rica?
None are required, but you should consult your physician before any trip.

10. Should I bring electric adapters for my razor and other such items?
Costa Rica uses 110 volts / 60 cycles current. But most of the sockets are only two prong ones.

11. How much is the exit tax?
The exit tax is US$ 26.00, payable in US currency, colones or credit card at the airport, just before checking your flight.

12. What should I bring for a tropical forest excursion?
All you really need is repellent, a light raincoat, a hat and good shoes.

13. How much is the sales tax in Costa Rica?
It's 13%.

14. What number should I dial for an emergency?
You should dial 911 for immediate assistance.

15. Are there any English newspapers available?

16. What are the rafting possibilities?
You can ride the Pacuare, the Reventazón, the Corobicí, the Sarapiquí, the Naranjo and the Savegre rivers all year long.

17. When is the Carnival?
There is a carnival in San José on December 25th. The carnival in Limón is in October and the carnival in Puntarenas, takes place between February 21st and March 3rd.

18. Where can we see the turtles lay eggs?
You can go to Tortuguero National Park on the Caribbean side, to Ostional (Guanacaste), or Las Baulas National Park, near Tamarindo, on the Pacific side.

19. What are the natural borders of Costa Rica?
- North: Nicaragua
- South: Panama
- East: Caribbean Sea
- West Pacific Ocean

20. How is the country split?
Costa Rica is divided into seven provinces: Alajuela, Heredia, Cartago, San José, Puntarenas, Limón & Guanacaste.
