General Information

Health & education

Since a long time, the Costa Rica government has taken an important part of it's budget to improve the health and minds of it's citizens. Consequently the population is way better educated and in shape physically. The Country has reached a literacy level and life span very similar to those of Europe and North America. Costa Rica has developed a social security system for over 50 years now, along with hospitals, schools and even university branches everywhere in the country.

For visitors, this means they will interact with well educated people and that they don't need to worry about health related problems so often found in Latin American countries.

Water is drinkable everywhere in the country, but it is of course always recommended to drink bottled water. If ever a tourist gets sick in Costa Rica, there are many clinics and hospitals in San José, pretty much to the standards we would expect in our own country, but at a much lower cost.
