General Information

Government

The government system of Costa Rica is very similar to the one in the United States or most countries of Occidental Europe and South America. There are three powers: the Executive, with a President, two Vice-presidents and ministers; the Legislative, with it's Assembly that has 57 elected members; and the Judicial Power, which include Civil Court, Criminal Court, Appeal and Constitutional Courts. The President and the members of the Legislative Assembly are elected for a period of four years and the President cannot be re-elected.
