Although Government offices and banks are closed on holidays, it is no inconvenient for the traveler, since they can exchange money in hotel lobbies. There are however many days where everything will be closed like Christmas, New Year and several days in between Easter Thursday and Friday.
Some festivities are very attractive to the visitor, like the week between Christmas and New Year in San José. The Province of Guanacaste holds a folkloric week, commemorating the Annexation of Guanacaste (July 25th). Carnival is celebrated in the Port of Limón -on the Caribbean Coast- in October, which constitutes another colourful event.
