Economy
Agriculture is clearly the main basis for the Costa Rican economy. Historically, coffee was the main resource of Costa Rica -which by the way produces one of the best coffee in the world- but in recent years, non traditional products took more importance. The second traditional crop in importance is the banana, and huge exploitations are found especially in the Atlantic zone. Other important crops are pineapple, sugar cane, orange, rice and ornamental plants.
Even if agriculture remains at the base of the national economy, lately, tourism rapidly became the premiere source of income for the country, and this continues, creating new jobs and promoting the conservation of biodiversity that tourist long for.
