Costa Rica has one of the most advanced telecommunications systems of Latin America, along with a telephone and fax service present everywhere in the country. More and more people and businesses are now connected to an Internet provider. To call Costa Rica -or to send a fax- the Costa Rica international code is 506.
There is also an excellent postal service and many private courier services. Major hotels in the San José area offer cable or satellite TV, where you can naturally tune in on American and European channels. You will also find newspapers and magazines from other countries in the same major hotels. In Costa Rica, English is only spoken in hotels and tourist frequented restaurants. It is better to be able to speak Spanish fluently to travel alone.
