Banks & money

There are many public and private banks in and around the capital city, however in smaller townships and villages, you will find currency exchange offices or small banking counters. The official money of Costa Rica is the colón. Otherwise, US dollars (small currency) are accepted everywhere in hotels and restaurants. You can exchange dollars and travel checks in banks and hotel lobbies. All major credit cards are accepted.
